Villains of Genesis: The Struggle with Evil and Hope for Redemption by Nechama Price

The Book of Genesis is filled with stories of both heroes and villains. Each biblical villain can be analyzed through a dual lens: as a rejected outsider – demonized, condemned, and excluded from the chosen nation – or as a complex individual who, at times, displays virtuous qualities that render them worthy of blessings, land, and legacy. In Villains of Genesis, Dr. Nechama Price devotes two chapters to each villain: in the first, she presents the villain as a wicked figure whose story plays a crucial role in highlighting the virtues of their heroic counterpart; in the second, she offers a more nuanced reading, portraying each villain as fully human – neither wholly good nor entirely evil – whose moral complexity enriches the narrative.
