Dr. Eliezer (Lewis) Glinert Professor of Hebrew Studies at Dartmouth College and an honorary member of the Hebrew Language Academy. His book The Story of Hebrew;(Princeton, 2018) was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.  Educated in London’s Stamford Hill, where his mentor was Rav Aryeh Carmell, z”l,;Professor Glinert graduated from Oxford in 1971 and gained a PhD in linguistics from London University. He has held appointments in Hebrew linguistics at Haifa University and Bar-Ilan, chaired the Centre for Jewish Studies at London University, and took up his Dartmouth professorship in 1997. In addition, he received ;semichah from Rabbi Daniel Channen.  Professor Glinert is the author of over eighty articles on Jewish language and on medication and safety communication. His books include The Grammar of Modern Hebrew (Cambridge, 1989) Hebrew in Ashkenaz: A Language in Exile (Oxford, 1993); and (with coauthor Jon Schommer)& A Screenful of Sugar? Prescription Drug Websites Investigated;(Peter Lang, 2014).
