The Story of the 188th Armored Brigade – The Brigade That Wasn’t Supposed to Be There.

At 06:29 on October 7, 2023, that terrible Sabbath, forces of the 188th Armored Brigade were engaged in operational activity in Judea and Samaria and the northern border. By the end of that day, 20 tanks and two infantry units of the brigade were scattered throughout the perimeter – fighting, killing dozens of terrorists and rescuing hundreds of civilians in Sderot, Bari, Kfar Gaza, Nahal Oz, Sufa and Kisufim.

"Out of nowhere I started hearing about a tank force coming towards me," the commander of the southern sector of the encirclement later said. "The feeling was that there was suddenly someone to work against. There weren't many such forces, if any, that day."

In fluent and detailed writing, and based on conversations with more than 100 officers and soldiers, Ronen Wodlinguer tells the story of the 188th Armored Brigade on October 7 and in the days that followed, hour by hour. He tells of battles to clear out posts, of face-to-face encounters, and of rescuing civilians from the inferno. At the same time, the book also goes inside the tank and sheds light on the experience – the conversations, the fears, the frustration, the humor – of a team of four tankmen fighting for hours inside an 80-ton iron monster.
